8×10, 11×14, or 16×20? Choosing a Menu Print Size

Vintage menu preview — 1900 Vintage Lunch Menu — Occidental & Oriental SS Co., Transatlantic Ocean

TL;DR — 8×10 is for shelves and tight spaces, 11×14 is the all-rounder for groupings and most rooms, and 16×20 is the statement size that anchors a wall on its own. All three print at 300 DPI, so the choice is about the space and the role, not image quality.

8×10 — intimate and flexible

The 8×10 is the smallest size and the most flexible. It suits a shelf, a desk, a narrow strip of wall, or a tight cluster of several small cards. Framed with a mat it reads at roughly 12×15 inches on the wall. Choose it when you want a menu as an accent rather than a focal point.

11×14 — the all-rounder

For most rooms and most menus, 11×14 is the right default. Matted and framed it reaches a presence of about 16×20 on the wall — large enough to hold its own, small enough to group two, three, or more together. If you are buying a set to hang as a wall, 11×14 is usually the size to standardise on.

16×20 — the statement

The 16×20 is the anchor. It carries a back-bar wall, a dining-room feature wall, or a hotel lobby on its own, and it does justice to the bold covers — the Art Deco wine lists and the strong illustrated liners — that were drawn for distance reading. Hang one alone, or use it as the centre of a larger grouping.

Quick guide by role:

  • Accent or shelf -> 8×10
  • Gallery wall / grouping -> 11×14
  • Single statement piece -> 16×20
  • Bar or restaurant feature wall -> 16×20, often in a row

Frequently asked questions

Will the 16×20 look sharp?

Yes. Files are prepared at 300 DPI for each listed size, so the largest print stays crisp on fine-art paper.

Which size should I buy for a gallery wall?

11×14 is the most versatile for groupings. Standardise on it, then add a 16×20 as the centrepiece if you want a focal point.

Do I get all sizes in one download?

Each menu includes all three sizes, each in a pure and a museum-labelled version, in one download.
